This plan is for reading the entire Bible this year. You can use any plan—including starting at Genesis and ending in Revelation but it is best to have readings from the Old and New Testaments each day. This plan uses a three part format:
1. New Testament Reading—each day you will have one chapter from the New Testament. You will read through the entire New Testament and the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) twice. The Gospels tell us about the life, ministry, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus.
2. Old Testament Reading—each day you will have two chapters from the Old Testament. You might occasionally have more or less. But the readings are planned to provide about an equal amount of reading each day. The plan is roughly chronological. You will start in Genesis and then read the book of Job (one of the oldest books in the Bible) and then finish Genesis. The readings will begin with Creation and end with God’s Word to Malachi.
3. Psalms and Proverbs Reading—each day you will read one chapter from Psalms and Proverbs. During the year you will read through Psalms and Proverbs twice.
You will read about 4 chapters each day. It will require you to spend 15 to 20 minutes a day. The challenge is to read each day and not miss hearing from God. There may be days when you are in the genealogies and don’t feel any inspiration at all. Keep reading. There may be days when you have to stop and spend time thinking about what God has shown you. Do it.
Is it worth it to invest this amount of time in reading God’s Word? YES!
“and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
(2 Timothy 3:15–17, NKJV)
